Once again, the August bank holiday is almost upon us. Which in turn means that the time has come to decide exactly how, where and with whom you’ll be making your sublime summer weekend special this year.
As always, the capital is quite simply bursting at the seams with amazing things to do over the course of the weekend. The obvious question being – where to start?
If you ask us, there are certain highlights not to be overlooked during this endlessly enjoyable time of the year. So if you only plan to sample one or two highlights, we’d highly recommend taking your pick from the following top things to do in London over the bank holiday weekend:
If you want to sample the kind of street food that’s more than worth queuing for, make your way over to Brick Lane as early as possible on Sunday. Tender, juicy rib meat piled high into white baps with a range of homemade sauces to choose from have made Mark Gevaux a household name for over a decade. Without doubt the best street food in London for as little as £7, not to mention the opportunity to take home a bottle of his signature sauce as a souvenir.
An incredible spectacle of swords, shields and spears right on the site of London’s own historic amphitheatre. Choose your side and watch the brave combatants fight it out to the death…but of course not really! When it’s all over and done with, check out the neighbouring Roman Festival for a taste of what life was like in Londinium around 2000 years ago.
For total refreshment and the opportunity to bask in quite stunning surroundings, head over to the swimming ponds at the heart of Hampstead Heath. Now patrolled by lifeguards throughout the summer season, these idyllic ponds are open to men, women and mixed groups alike. Be warned however – the water remains curiously chilly at all times, even on the hottest summer days!
Who wouldn’t like to climb to heights of 35m (115ft) above South London, before making an exhilarating 225m (738ft) descent at speeds topping 50mph? OK, so it might not be for everyone, but anyone out for a bit of high-energy excitement over the bank holiday should head over to Archbishop's Park. A unique opportunity to ride one of the fastest urban ziplines in the world.
Last but not least, we’re once again proud to be offering a range of exclusive and enjoyable cooking classes, over the August bank holiday weekend. On August 26th, join us for a master class on Classic French Desserts, Ultimate Knife Confidence and decadent Indian Street Food. Or if you prefer, head our way on the 27th when we’ll be tackling Marvellous Macarons, Artisan Sausage Making and exotic South American Street Food.
