Unusual Afternoon Tea in London

Posted: 26 July 2018

We’re counting down the days to Afternoon Tea Week 2018 – a week-long celebration of one of the most delightful of all British traditions, kicking off on August 14! And as we’re all about celebrating in style, the team at Jenius Social would like to share a few unusual suggestions for afternoon tea in the capital.

Trust us when we say that if you think you know afternoon tea, you could be in for a seriously enjoyable wake-up call!

1) B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour

First up, what could be better than enjoying high-tea surrounded by the most iconic London landmarks?  The answer – a memorable afternoon tea on board a vintage Routemaster bus, taking in all the iconic sights of the city as you relax and unwind. The exclusive B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour has become a firm favourite among discerning day-trippers to the capital, serving the most decadent sandwiches and delicious cakes and pastries as you cruise the city in style. And as the whole thing lasts no longer than 2 hours, it’s easy to squeeze into any visit!

2) Gentlemen's Afternoon Teas

More venues in London than ever before are now specialising in a variety of gentlemen’s afternoon teas. One of which being the Sanctum Soho Hotel, providing gents with the opportunity to enjoy a true rock star teatime. Not for the faint hearted, it a cavalcade of carbohydrates, red meats and top shelf booze, all with the kind of soundtrack that’ll have you feeling like a celebrity from start to finish. An incredible experience, if somewhat intense!

3) Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea

If planning to take the kids along for the ride, we highly recommend heading over to the Sanderson Hotel to take part in the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. As you’d expect, this is the kind of afternoon tea where surprises await at every turn and nothing is as it seems. The attention to detail in terms of both decorative touches and entertainment really is extraordinary – the perfect afternoon experience for adults and kids of all ages.

4) Science Afternoon Tea

Over at the Ampersand Hotel, inspiration from the nearby science museum has resulted in the creation of a truly one-of-a-kind experience. A uniquely scientific twist on the traditional afternoon tea, it’s a little like being served a futuristic cacophony of creations in a bubbling and foaming science lab.  However curious the culinary creations may be, they’re also as decadent and enjoyable as it gets!

5) Vintage

Last up, anyone looking to take a step back in time should check out Cocktail Cuppas & Cakes, courtesy of the folks at Cahoots. Take the rare opportunity to enjoy a superb selection of post-war sweets and sumptuous cocktails, in the presence of a live swing band and surrounded by period décor. A glorious taste of the fifties you won’t find anywhere else in London!

If you’re unable to make it for any of these venues, why not head over to Jenius Social to take part in our Marvellous Macarons cookery class? After which, you’ll leave with the skills and talents to put on your own afternoon tea festivities, any day of the week!
