Food Trends for 2022!

Have you been wondering what kinds of up-and-coming food trends are going to be popular this year? Of course you have!

Whether you think they’re fads or are here for the long term they always will shape the way we approach cooking and eating. So here’s a quick rundown of what’s on the menu for 2022:

1. Classic salad dressings are back!

Say goodbye to virgin olive oil and hello to some yummy old-school classics like Caesar, green goddess and ranch in 2022. We’re looking forward to seeing some modern twists on these favourites, in the meantime check out our Instagram page for a great salad dressing hack.

2. Caribbean food

Caribbean and island food is set to be a big trend for 2022 – and we're so here for it.

A recent survey by Mintel found that Caribbean food now comes under the four super popular world foods (Chinese, Indian, Mexican and Thai food) in terms of how many UK people have tried it (nearly a third of respondents).

We hope to see more Caribbean restaurants popping up on our high streets soon!

3. Plant-Based Diets

Plant-based eating continues to trend upward year on year and 2022 is no exception. More people are looking to cut back on meat consumption - likely due to a number of factors including cost and availability of meat products and a desire to eat healthier and more sustainably. There has also been an explosion of plant-based options and meat alternatives in supermarkets and restaurants making it easier for people to switch to meat free meals.

We have seen a growing demand for this across all of our cookery experiences which is why we offer vegan/vegetarian options to our guests.

4. Brain Food

Since the start of the pandemic brain health and in particular mental health has been a hot topic, people are now more focused on the connection between mental health and diet and we don’t think it’s going to slow down anytime soon.

People are looking for the best foods to eat for brain health, to ward off dementia and Alzheimer's and ways to keep their brains sharp as they age – some of the best foods for this include fatty fish, turmeric, berries, nuts and plenty of green veg!

Make brain food fun by incorporating them into things like smoothies or sushi – on our Japanese cookery experience we teach guests how to make yummy smoked salmon maki rolls!

5. Mushrooms

We’ve already touched on the growing plant-based trend and mushrooms are a big part of this! The hearty texture and absorbent quality of mushrooms make them a great meat alternative. In 2022, we expect to see an increase in recipes that call on mushrooms to replace meats in new and creative ways.

We have a delicious recipe for shiitake mushroom and peanut dumplings on our Japanese cookery experience so it looks like we’re ahead of the game on this one!
